Savchuk beats Hingis in thrilling match
Former World No. 1 Martina Hingis has once again proved the right to be called a legend despite only being 29, although she lost to Ukrainian Olga Savchuk in three sets at the Nottingham Masters today.
The pair were a great match for each other, producing some stunning rallies and keeping the crowds guessing until the final minute. Hingis, who is making her professional comeback in the legends doubles at Wimbledon, was able to take the second set off the World No. 149 but in the end Savchuk proved to be too much on the day. The match ended 6:2 4:6 10:5 after a thrilling super tie-break in the third set. After the match, Savchuk said that “it was always my dream to play against Martina, as she has influenced my professional career.”
Day Three also saw Mikael Pernfors beat Jeremy Bates and Barry Cowan surpisingly winning against former Wimbledon Champion Richard Krajicek.
Tickets for the Sunday are still available and can be purchased from the box office tomorrow.
