15 year old, Laura Robson confirms today that she will be playing in a round-robin tournament at the Nottingham Masters on June 13th and 14th.
"The first time that I ever played on grass was in Nottingham when I was nine years old, so I have very fond memories of the city and I am looking forward to returning”, said Laura today.
"We are delighted that Laura will be playing at our event. She is such a bright, young talent. We have had the pleasure of having Caroline Wozniacki (world no. 11) and Novak Djokovic (world no. 2) play at our tournament in Liverpool and believe we can offer a platform for these young stars to play against their peers in preparation for competitive tournaments at both Nottingham and Liverpool. It also allows the public to see these tennis talents at accessible tournaments, before they go on to play Grand Slams.
“Laura is an exciting an amazing new prospect in tennis and I am delighted that she has agreed to play at our event, she is a Wimbledon Champion in the making which is both exciting for British tennis fans and for attendees of the Nottingham Masters this year, who get to see Laura in the few weeks preceding Wimbledon", says Northern Vision Tournament Director, Anders Borg.
Laura first captured the British publics and the media's attention last year, when she won the Junior Girls title at the All England Championships defeating #3 seed Noppawan Lertcheewakarn of Thailand 6-3 3-6 6-1. She made her WTA debut at Luxembourg in October 2008, a big step up from anything that Laura had played before as the draw included Olympic champion Elena Dementieva of Russia and 3 time Grand Slam champion Lindsay Davenport of the United States.
Laura had a great run in the junior event at the 1st Grand Slam of the year at the Australian Open, but she lost in the final, 3-6 1-6, to #3 seed Ksenia Pervak of Russia.
